2010 Artist: Steve Ausherman

Steve Ausherman is a painter, poet, photographer and high schoolfine arts educator who has been a New Mexico resident since 1992. Raised in York, Pennsylvania, he received his B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and his M.A. in Art Education from the University of New Mexico. His work has been exhibited in eleven U.S. states and is currently represented by Color and Light Gallery in Madrid, NM. Hehas taught fine arts and photography at Sandia Preparatory School for the last eleven years; he considers his teaching to be a vocation as deeply challenging and rewarding as his fine arts pursuits.
A Pushcart Prize nominee in poetry, he works in many artistic media ranging from painting and printmaking to photography and ceramics. The images that make up the 2010 Edgar Awards were created during his many travels throughout the U.S. and abroad. His travel images illuminate his love of exploring new lands and experiencing fresh vistas and open roads. He hopes that these images allow the spirit of travel to shine through them and help inspire others to pack their bags and hit the road.
