Community Employment

Community Employment is comprised of Supported Employment, Education and Training, Job Development and Placement and Pathways to Self-Sufficiency.

Goodwill places individuals in competitive community-based employment while offering ongoing retention services to ensure successful employment. Employment is sought in the least restrictive, most integrated community settings. Job development, job coaching, resource assistance, team coordination, employer training and retention services are available from intake to placement and continue throughout the follow-through period.

Job development and placement services are conducted in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, Gallup, Roswell, Clovis and Farmington. They include:

Situational Assessment Program – This program assesses the client’s ability to perform work in various “real world” employment settings. It is targeted toward persons who have been out of the work force for a long period of time, have never worked or have problems keeping a job. Supported employment team members monitor the client’s work skills and abilities, help clients develop an employment plan and identify supports for successful employment.

Work Adjustment Program – This pre-employment program offers intensive coaching to reinforce positive work behaviors while learning new work skills. Based on the individual program plan, clients engage in real work while learning new skills to maximize their abilities.

Job Placement – This program is customized to each client and helps match the job seeker to the job they want. Services are designed to help the client find long term, community-based employment that meets their needs, abilities and vocational interests. A job developer assists with resume writing, job search skills, interviewing techniques and employer expectations, and provides post-employment retention skills and support. This program may also provide job coaching at the workplace, as needed.

Job Coaching – Both employees and employers may access this service. Job coaching provides the support needed for a client to obtain the skills and training tasks needed to maintain employment. Job coaching and work adjustment may entail what we call “soft skills”: get up, take a shower, get to work on time, take supervisory instruction, learn how to deal with problem situations in a constructive manner, take breaks only when scheduled, and so on.

Intensive Coaching – This service provides one-on-one coaching for clients who need more focused instruction than what they can receive in a group environment.

Post Placement Services – This is any service provided to a client after the 90-day job evaluation. A person may come back for services whenever they wish. Some may want to get another job, seek advice on how to get a promotion or ask for more training.
