Pathways to Self-Sufficiency
The Pathways to Self-Sufficiency Program was established in 2002 to help homeless and near homeless persons obtain and maintain long-term community-based employment to help end their homelessness. The program provides job training, placement, coaching and retention services for as long as a client requires services.
It is one of Goodwill’s most successful and effective programs, and it is free to clients. Every year, the Pathways Program places approximately 65 persons in competitive community employment, and 75 percent of those placed obtained long-term housing. Of the 17 Albuquerque agencies serving the homeless, Goodwill is among the very few that provide job training and placement services to help prevent a return to homelessness.
The Pathways Program receives an average of 20 referrals per month through Goodwill’s community partners. Pathways staff also goes to the homeless wherever they are in Albuquerque. We also work with the Albuquerque Police Department to serve the homeless anywhere in the city. The APD Crisis Intervention Program regularly contacts Pathways to send a staff person to do an intake wherever the new client is located.
Pathways to Home
In 2007, Goodwill initiated its Pathways to Home Program, which provides housing and supportive services to chronically homeless individuals. Part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Program and the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, the Pathways to Home Program currently houses 14 persons in the Albuquerque area while offering case management and quality of life services.
