What Happens To My Donation?

Know Before You Donate

At Goodwill Industries of New Mexico, we’re NOT a for-profit business. We don’t hide behind the name of a nonprofit partnership that pays only pennies on the dollar for donations. Instead, we are a local nonprofit with thrift stores that exist to fund the programs and services we offer free to New Mexicans.

That means every time you make a donation or a purchase in one of our stores, you help someone secure community employment or gain access to social services.

Unfortunately, not all organizations have the same community-minded focus. Many donation bins in New Mexico with nonprofit designations, actually benefit for-profit businesses. That’s why it’s important to be informed before you make a donation.

100% of the money made from the sale of your donation stays with Goodwill and in the State of New Mexico. Plus, 89-cents of every dollar we spend is used to fund our programs and services.

Before Donating to an Organization, Ask Them the Following:

  • Is your organization for-profit or nonprofit?
  • How much of my donation will stay with the organization?
  • Where do my donations go once I put them in a donation bin or drop them off?
  • How will be donation help my local community?
