DIY Halloween Terrarium

There’s nothing quite like a cute terrarium to spice up your space. Why not elevate that spice with a creepy cute Halloween version of a terrarium to add to your fall décor. A quick run to Goodwill and a craft store, around 30 minutes maximum (it took us just 15 minutes!), and a little creativity is all it takes to decorate your home with a new addition! You’ll be surprised by how quick and easy this project is vs how cute it turns out.

Here's what you’ll need:
  1. Thrifted lanterns and large/tall jars
  2. Fake plants/flowers
  3. Whatever kind of spooky décor you would like. We chose mini skulls, gravestones, fake snakes, and moss.
  4. Rock/sand/dirt fill of your choosing
  5. Flower foam

Here’s what you’ll want to do:
  1. Before you begin, you’ll want to wash your lanterns/jars. Use warm soapy water to scrub off any stickers and make sure they’re clean. We also painted the wood of our lantern black to match the vibe.
  2. Start off with marking where you want your plant in the jar using the flower foam and adjust as you need so it fits properly.
  3. Once you’ve got an idea of how you want to place your plant you can start to add the rest of the decorations. You can glue down the foam to keep it in place or keep it loose if you would like to change it up over time. Pour in whatever filler you’ve chosen and move it around to your desired look.
  4. Here’s the fun part! You can decorate however you would like! We stuffed ours with some spooky moss and snakes!
  5. (Optional) Don’t want to add plants? That’s fine too! We made a smaller version with a small gravestone and skull.

There are so many different ways to create a spooky terrarium! Feel free to personalize and adjust yours to match your tastes. These terrariums look great in your home and are so easy to make. Show us your creations by tagging us on Facebook and Instagram @goodwillnewmexico
