The average cost of a wedding in the United States is $26,444, making Do-It-Yourself (otherwise known as “DIY”) weddings on a budget, a rapidly growing trend.  By making your own decorations, centerpieces, bridesmaids’ dresses, and flower bouquets, you can save hundreds to thousands of dollars on your special day.  At Goodwill Industries of New Mexico, you will find a wide selection of items you can use for all of your wedding’s DIY projects.

Bridesmaid proposals have recently become a popular trend when it comes to asking your best friends or family to be a part of your big day. Here’s a great, yet inexpensive way to ask your loved ones to be a a part of your wedding party. Look for a stunning photo frame at Goodwill Industries of New Mexico. Decorate the frame and add a picture of you with your best friends to show them how important it is for them to stand by your side as your say, “I do.”  Don’t forget to include a personalized note with the big question: “Will you be my bridesmaid?”

Nothing adds to the beauty of a wedding like dazzling centerpieces.  You can find an assortment of vases and decorative jars at your local thrift store. Once you have found the perfect base, use translucent glass paint or spray paint to match your wedding colors.  Fill your vases with white carnations and baby’s breath for the final touch to your centerpiece.  Add a beautiful votive candle to each table to complete the romantic and intimate table setting.

Should you choose to have a seating chart, you can number your tables with numbered lanterns.  All you need is a tea light candle, lace, a burlap tie, and an old mason jar.  Wrap the lace around the mason jar, add your burlap tie and a number card, insert your candle, and viola! you have a whimsical vintage piece to guide your guests to their seats.

There are so many resourceful ways to incorporate fun DIY projects into your wedding and save money in the long run. Let your creativity blossom and browse the “DIY with Goodwill Finds” Pinterest board. Then hop on over to your local Goodwill store for all of your wedding needs!
